Abstract

This volume and its companion contains the papers presented during the second Space Course on Low Earth Orbit Transportation held at the Munich University of Technology from October 11-22, 1993. The first of these biennial courses took place at the Aachen University of Technology in spring 1991. The third course will be held at the Stuttgart University in 1995. Subsequent courses are planned at RWTH Aachen, TU Muenchen and Univ. Stuttgart. They are organized by the Collaborative Research Centers (SFB) for the 'Development of space transportation systems' which the German Research Association (DFG) has established at these universities in 1989 and 1990. The aim of these courses is to provide an extensive training for students, research assistants from universities, engineers from the aerospace industries, as well as for scientists from large-scale research institutions and space agencies within Europe and abroad. The topics of the 2nd Space Course are broadly divided into the main areas Aero-Thermodynamics, Propulsion, Combustion, Pollution, Flight Mechanics, Design and Cost Estimation. They are treated totally in 38 elaborate articles.
