Publisher Summary This chapter discusses results obtained from the comparative studies of the sugar chains of glycoproteins. Based on the data obtained by the comparative study of the sugar chains of glycoproteins produced by tumor cells and their normal counterparts, it was possible to develop novel methods for diagnosis and prognosis of various tumors. However, species-specific differences of the sugar chain structure must be taken into account as documented by a series of studies on γ-glutamyltranspeptidase in hepatocellular carcinoma.
