Abstract

Abstract 2,2-dimethyl 1,3-propanediol (NPG) and 2-hydroxymethyl 2-methyl 1,3-propanediol (PG), polyols presenting reversible solid-plastic transition with interesting thermodynamic properties at relatively low temperature, are used for energy storage. By making homogeneous mixtures of these compounds, one expects to adjust the transtition temperature. The solid-plastic transition of these polyols and their mixtures in various proportions, determined by calorimetric measurements, are studied by 13C high resolution NMR. The spectra of the binary mixtures are the sum of the spectra of the components but their behaviour at the transition suggests that the transition mechanism of the mixtures is the same as those in the pure components.
