Abstract

Abstract The work of Daum [Surface Sci. 182 (1987) 521] on the long range order of the p(2 × 2) superstructure of S on Ni(100) is commented upon. The experiments of Daum have been extended to other temperatures and it is concluded that a perfect p(2 × 2) structure of S on Ni(100) does exist and that annealing of the sulphur layer at temperatures above 600 K leads to the formation of the streaky LEED patterns reported by Daum.
