Abstract

Abstract The present chapter describes the isolation, biological activities, potential biogenetic routes, and syntheses of natural products with a pyrrolo[2,1- a]isoquinoline framework, as well as the syntheses of structural analogs. The natural products are peyoglutam and mescalotam (isolated in 1968), crispine A and crispine B (isolated in 2002), trolline or salsoline A (isolated in 2004), oleracein E (isolated in 2005), and salsoline B (isolated in 2007). Racemic and enantioselective syntheses are also discussed.
