Abstract 1. 1. A review of the TA and GIA stapling instruments is presented. 2. 2. An improved technic to avoid a compromised vascular segment is described and illustrated. 3. 3. The need to control bleeding along the anastomotic line after using the GIA instrument is emphasized. 4. 4. Nineteen consecutive gastric resections are reviewed. There was no mortality or morbidity due to the use of the clamps after the through and through suture technic was used. 5. 5. All patients in whom staples are used should be told the staples will show in abdominal roentgenograms.
