Wave gauge array are commonly used to estimate significant wave properties of multi-directional waves. The objective of this study is to gain insight into which parameters influence the accuracy of an array. The approach chosen is to determine the accuracy of an array by comparing generated waves with estimates obtained through analysis in the frequency domain. In this study the waves are generated using a random phase method not including noise; which are then analysed using an implementation of the Bayesian Directional Method. Then using this method various wave gauge array are tested using synthetic data.<br/><br/>The long term goal of this research is to incorporate the findings into existing wave analysis methods by updating their weighting function and improve the accuracy. It would also be possible to create software able to help determine which wave gauge array is advisable based on the laboratory facility.
