Abstract

Abstract Photoionization cross sections of excited-state cesium atoms Cs(6 2 P 1/2) and Cs(6 2 P 3/2) are computed at incident photon wavelengths greater than 1500 Å. Both the spin-orbit perturbation of the valence-electron orbital and the polarization interaction between the valence-electron and the core are included in the calculations. Coefficients for the rate of radiative recombination to each (6 2 P j ) fine-structure level are determined for temperatures below 3500°K.
