Abstract

Abstract In hamsters exposed to short light-dark (LD) cycles, paradoxical sleep (PS) predominated during the light periods, whereas slow wave sleep (SWS) was not affected by the lighting conditions. Thus a selective effect of lighting conditions on paradoxical sleep which so far has been documented only for the rat, occurs in a further rodent species.
