Abstract

Abstract The specific heat and magnetization of a c-axis aligned (Bi, Pb) 2Sr 2Ca 2Cu 3O x bulk sample have been measured in magnetic fields up to 50 kOe. The normalized electronic specific heat δ/ C/δ C MF, where δ C MF is a mean-field specific-heat jump, as well as the magnetization M(T,H)/(TH) 1 2 can be cast into a universal curve with variable [T – T c(H)]/(TH) 1 2 , where T c( H) is the mean-field transition temperature. This means that the influence of the superconducting fluctuations on the thermodynamic properties of the Bi 2Sr 2Ca 2Cu 3O x system is described by two-dimensional scaling functions. The scaling behaviors are discussed on the basis of the Ginzburg-Landau fluctuation theory for a quasi-two-dimensional system.
