Abstract

Mycobacterium leprae is the pathogen responsible for leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease. Although recognition of this condition dates back thousands of years to the ancient civilizations of China, Egypt and India, the first written record of leprosy is dated 600 BC ( WHO).
