Abstract

Abstract The kinetics of the temperature induced α/ß-phase transition of silver sulfide has been investigated using solid galvanic cells of the type Ag ¦α-AgI¦ Ag 2S. Single precipitation events have been observed during the ß → α transformation, where α indicates the low temperature modification. The nucleation free enthalpy of excess silver in Ag 2 + δS has been determined and the influence of elastic stress in the Ag precipitation process is considered.
