The hypothalamus is that part of the forebrain which forms the floor of the third ventricle in immediate topographical relation with the pituitary gland (1). The limiting boundary of the hypothalamus is ill-defined. It extends, without any sharp line of demarcation, into the parolfactory region of the telencephalon anteriorly and into the tegmental part of the mid-brain posteriorly.
