Joshua Elmer, photographer, homesteaded in the Black Rock region, Grant County, Washington State in 1903. By 1910 he was well known as a commercial photographer. Building his own cameras, and maintaining a studio with adequate window space, plus skylights for natural light, he soon achieved success in family portraiture, panoramic farm scenes and picture postcards. This photo shows Elmer standing beside an auto he ordered and assembled himself from a Sears-Roebuck kit. Note: Photographer presumably Joshua Elmer (i.e., self-portrait). Elmer died in 1943 and is buried in the Ruff Schultz Memorial Cemetery.
