Publisher Summary This chapter addresses the process of adding value in enterprise resource planning (ERP) outsourcing relationships by presenting the lessons learned from an ERP outsourcing case study in the consumer package goods sector. Value creation in application outsourcing relationships is challenging. The chapter presents a case study that provides an insight in value creation. The capabilities of both the service recipient and the service providers are described. Furthermore, the contracts and service level agreements (SLAs) are also discussed. The chapter also presents an overview of the relevant theories including the resource-based view (RBV), the transaction cost theory, the incomplete contract theory and the relational view (RV). Finally, the chapter discusses recent developments in the ERP outsourcing market. These developments may impact value creation in application outsourcing relationships.
