Abstract

Abstract Two-photon excitation of fluorescence from perylene in n-hexane solution at room temperature has been measured using both linear and circular polarized light over incident laser energies of 11760-18860 cm −1. From the observed peaks, their polarization ratio (Ω= I cir/ I lin), and a portion of the two-photon excitation (TPE) spectrum obtained from a 77 K isopentane glass, low-lying ππ* electronic states of gerade parity in the 23600-35700 cm −1 range, as well as a dipole-forbidden B 3u − state below 26500 cm −1, have been located and characterized.
