Abstract

Abstract It has been assumed for many years that condylomata acuminata (anogenital warts) are caused by human papilloma virus. However, experiments measuring the rates of reassociation of 125I-labeled papilloma DNA probes in the presence of total condyloma DNA preparations failed to detect as little as 0.2 copies of viral DNA per cell, even though circular DNA, including molecules the size of papilloma, could be isolated from condyloma tissue.
