Abstract

Abstract The paper deals with the matrix mechanism of excitation energy transfer to rare-earth centres in GaS x Se 1− x crystals. Energy transfer to Ln 3+ is shown to be radiationless in GaS 1− x Se x (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 1) single crystals and to come about predominantly by resonance, involving local states of the matrix forbidden band.
