Abstract

Abstract An investigation of the steady-state properties of liquid in flexible tubes was carried out as part of the information required for mathematical analysis of the fluid flow within a milking machine. The relationship between friction coefficient and Reynolds number in a variety of long milk tubes during milking with no air bleeds and in the laboratory using both milk and water was investigated. Wall roughness was evaluated for each tube and a power law was used to describe the relationship between the friction coefficient and Reynolds number.
