Oxidation of L-Phenylalanine and Related Reactions: Preparation of L-DOPA.

Abstract

L-Phenylalanine and phenylethylamine are oxidized at low temperature with Fe2+ complexes: L-DOPA and tyrosins, tyramine and Dopamine are respectively obtained. The catalytic cycle is created by the use of electrons provided by the cathode of an electrochemical cell. In order to improve the yield in hydroxy compounds these are continuously evacuated out of the reactor.
