Abstract

Abstract Six bands forming the 2- v″ progression of the third positive system ( b 3Σ +- a 3Π r transition) in the spectrum of the CO molecule have been photographed at a high resolution. The least-squares method according to the Curl-Dane-Watson procedure was used to individually fit the wavenumbers of the rotationally analyzed strongly perturbed bands. Merged terms of the common upper v′ = 2 level have been obtained, taking their covariances and variances into account. Accurate parameters of the b 3Σ + ( v = 2) state as well as parameters of perturbing levels of the a′ 3Σ + state (i.e., v = 40 to v = 46) were calculated from merged terms by the weighted least-squares fitting.
