Abstract

Abstract We have determined the hydrostatic pressure coefficients of all the intra-Ni 2+ ion optical transitions as well as of the valence-band Ni 2+/Ni 1+ level photoionization edge in ZnSe. Following the idea that transition-metal impurity levels can serve as reference points for measuring absolute pressure shifts of the band edges, we have evaluated the valence-band deformation potential of ZnSe and discussed the validity of such a procedure.
