Abstract

Abstract The cross sections for a number of reactions commonly used to measure 14 MeV neutron flux densities were determined using samples which were irradiated simultaneously: 27 Al( n, α) 24 Na, 116±8 mb; 32 S(n, p) 32 P, 184±15 mb; 55 Mn( n, 2 n) 54 Mn, 75±6 mb; 54 Fe(n, p) 54 Mn, 300±20 mb; 56 Fe(n, p) 56 Mn, 109±9 mb; 58 Ni(n, p) 58 Co, 318±25 mb; 58 Ni(n, pn+np+d) 57 Co, 75±6 mb; 58 Ni( n, 2 n) 57 Ni, 36±3 mb; 115 In(n, n′) 115 m In, 69±5 mb; 115 In( n, 2 n) 114 m In, 1390±110 mb; and 127 I( n, 2 n) 126 I, 1660±140 mb . The indicated errors are estimated two standard deviation limits, whereas the relative cross-section values are thought to be accurate to about 3 %, and therefore of use for interrelating fast neutron cross sections measured relative to various of these monitor reactions.
