Abstract Superior/subordinate relationships often fail to work because both parties lack realistic expectations about what they can provide for each other. If people critically analyze and understand the needs of themselves, their bosses, and their subordinates, they will be in a much better position to take advantage of superior/subordinate relationships. Bosses cant provide everything. Many times their ability to provide resources is limited by the organization. They can, however, often provide such important personal needs as training, counseling, exposure, and sponsorship.
