Abstract

Abstract Simultaneous ground based observations of the OI(6300Å) emission and satellite observations of precipitated low energy electrons inside the polar cap are presented. It is shown that thermal excitation by heated electrons is the dominant mechanism in producing the red emission at these latitudes.
