Abstract

Abstract The positon decay of 40Sc to the negative parity states of 40Ca has been studied using the results of an intermediate coupling shell model calculation for the wave functions of the 40Sc ground state and 40Ca excited states. The branching ratios for the decay to the various levels in in 40Ca and the resulting M1 gamma ray transition rates between the negative parity states in 40Ca are calculated using these wave functions. The theoretical results are compared with experiment.
