Abstract

Abstract The high-resolution one-photon ionization curve of rotationally cold NH 3 has been investigated in the 119.1-117.7 and 116.5–115.4 nm wavelength regions. Rydberg series converging to the ν 2 + = 3 and ν 2 + = 5 thresholds of ground state NH 3 + were observed and attributed to vibrational autoionization. Photoelectron spectroscopy of two of these Rydberg resonances confirms the Δν 2 = −1 propensity for vibrational autoionization of these levels. An additional selection rule based on symmetry is proposed.
