Abstract

Abstract After describing the aims of the Community with regard to ‘harmonization’ and the legal basis for its activities in working towards that aim, the author discusses the relation of EEC labelling policy to that of other international organizations and then sets out in detail the proposals in the draft Directive currently before the Council of Ministers. In conclusion, she discusses the adaptation of UK legislation to comply with the Directive, and examines the reasons behind the slow completion rate of Community provisions, which ‘has been acutely disappointing for those who favour a free European market in foodstuffs’.
