Abstract

Summary We treated a patient with avascular necrosis of the carpal scaphoid associated with progressive systemic sclerosis. Aetiology and histology of this unusual condition are discussed in relation to the underlying disease and the anatomical characteristics of the carpal scaphoid. Resection of the carpal scaphoid and replacement were successful.
