Abstract

Abstract A potentiometric investigation of the interactions between representative binuclear transition metal chelates of triethylenetetraminehexa-acetic acid (TTHA) and certain bidentate chelating agents is reported. Evidence is given for the formation of Cu(II) and Fe(III) mixed ligand chelates having a 2:1:2 ratio of metal ion to TTHA to Tiron and similar chelates with a 2:1:2 ratio of metal ion to TTHA to 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulphonic acid. Formation constants are calculated and probable arrangements of co-ordinate bonds in these chelates are deduced.
