Abstract

Abstract We ascribe the ionic size effect of Pr-induced T c suppression in R 1−xPr xBa 2−ySr yCu 3O 7-δ to the two aspects: (1) different hole-doping states in Pr-free RBa 2−ySr yCu 3O 7 superconductors, and (2) unusual R 3+ size effect on Pr4f-O2p hybridization. Based on a hole-transfer model, the puzzled ionic size effect can be basically understood.
