We review a cochain-free treatment of the classical van Kampen obstruction ϑ to embeddability of an n-polyhedron in ℝ2n and consider several analogs and generalizations of ϑ, including an extraordinary lift of ϑ, which has been studied by J.-P. Dax in the manifold case. The following results are obtained: (1) The mod 2 reduction of ϑ is incomplete,...

A comparison is given of the fundamental works of S. V. Vonsovskii on the many-electron polar and s-d (f) exchange models with the subsequent development of the theory of magnetism of transition and rare-earth metals and their compounds. Special attention is given to the derivation of different many-electron models (Heisenberg, Hubbard, Anderson) a...

We present an analysis of the results of photometric investigations of two distant comets, C/2002 VQ94 (LINEAR) and 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann-1, obtained with the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The comets under study demonstrate sufficient activity out of the zone of water ice sublimation (...

The results of the photometric observations of comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 are analyzed. The comet demonstrates substantial activity at heliocentric distances larger than 5 AU, i.e., outside the water ice sublimation zone. The CCD images of the comet were obtained in wideband R filters at the 6-meter telescope of the Special Astrophysical Obse...

To provide stability of classification, a robust supervised minimum distance classifier based on the minimax (in the Huber sense) estimate of location is designed for the class of generalized Gaussian pattern distributions with a bounded variance. This classifier has the following low-complexity form: with relatively small variances, it is the near...

The N = 1 SQCD with SU(Nc) colors and NF flavors of light quarks is considered within the dynamical scenario that assumes that quarks can be in the two different phases only: the heavy-quark phase, where they are confined, and the phase of higgsed quarks, at the appropriate values of the Lagrangian parameters. The mass spectra of this (direct) theo...

A review of probability representation of quantum states in given for optical and photon number tomography approaches. Explicit connection of photon number tomogram with measurable by homodyne detector optical tomogram is obtained. New integral relations connecting Hermite polynomials of two variables with Laguerre polynomials are found. Examples o...

This is a study of the physical and chemical properties of carbonaceous aerosols emitted by transport systems (namely, by aircraft gas turbine engines and large ship diesel engines) into the atmosphere. A comparative analysis of the morphology, size, elemental composition, and surface chemistry between aviation and diesel soot particles reveals the...

Quantum operators of coordinates and momentum components of a particle in Minkowski space-time belong to a noncommutative algebra and give rise to a quantum phase space. Under some constraints, in particular, the Lorentz invariance condition, the algebra of observables, including the Lorentz group generators, depends on additional fundamental physi...

Properties of domestic linear alkylbenzene were subjected to a physicochemical study in order to enable use of this compound as the main solvent in large-volume liquid organic scintillators intended for neutrino experiments. New compositions of Gd-containing liquid scintillators based on linear alkylbenzene were suggested and examined.
