BACKGROUND Cervical cancer threatens women's health worldwide. Verteporfin (VP), a small-molecule YAP1 inhibitor, inhibits cancer cell growth. This study investigated whether VP could inhibit the proliferation and promote the apoptosis of cervical cancer cells by decreasing SULT2B1 expression. MATERIAL AND METHODS Normal and cancerous cervical cell...

The dominant paradigm for HPV carcinogenesis includes integration into the host genome followed by expression of E6 and E7 (E6/E7). We explored an alternative carcinogenic pathway characterized by episomal E2, E4, and E5 (E2/E4/E5) expression. Half of HPV positive cervical and pharyngeal cancers comprised a subtype with increase in expression of E2...

Cervical cancer is the most common cancer affecting sub-Saharan African women and is prevalent among HIV-positive (HIV+) individuals. No comprehensive profiling of cancer genomes, transcriptomes or epigenomes has been performed in this population thus far. We characterized 118 tumors from Ugandan patients, of whom 72 were HIV+, and performed extend...

BackgroundRadical hysterectomy (RH) is a type of radical surgery performed for cervical cancer. Urinary dysfunction due to RH exacerbates the postoperative quality of life of cervical cancer patients. The nerve-sparing RH (NSRH) technique has been used as an effective measure to conserve urinary function. However, few reports have been published on...

For oncologic safety, vaginal radical trachelectomy is generally performed only in patients with cervical cancers smaller than 2 cm. However, because inclusion criteria for abdominal trachelectomy are controversial, we evaluated the safety of abdominal trachelectomy for cervical cancers ≥2 cm. We began performing abdominal trachelectomies at our in...

Objective Previously, indications for laterally extended endopelvic resection (LEER) have excluded patients with sciatica because R0 resection has not been deemed possible [ 1 ]. Because laparoscopy optimizes visualization and thus provides for meticulous dissection, we hypothesized that R0 resection can be achieved by means of laparoscopic LEER in...

Objective Peritoneal metastases (PM) are a challenge in gynecological cancers, but its appearance has never been described in a population-based study. Therefore, we describe the incidence of PM and identify predictors that increase the probability of peritoneal spread. Methods All ovarian, endometrial and cervical cancer patients diagnosed in the ...
