Lymph node yield (LNY) is used as a marker of adequate oncological resection. The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) currently recommends that at least 12 nodes are necessary to confirm node-negative disease for rectal cancer. A LNY of 12 is not always achieved, particularly in patients who have undergone neoadjuvant treatment. This study at...

Pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) currently represents the gold standard method for nodal staging in the setting of localised prostate cancer and may also have a therapeutic benefit in certain patients. The histopathological evaluation of PLND specimens plays a critical role in accurate lymph node staging, however there is currently a lack of con...

There is uncertainty on the best approach to histological examination of macroscopically negative lymph nodes obtained from resections for colorectal carcinomas. In this study we reviewed the lymph nodes from all 54 colorectal resections for colorectal carcinoma with positive lymph nodes obtained in 1 year. Macroscopically negative nodes had been s...

The routine use of adjunct techniques to identify additional lymph nodes is unnecessary with underlying high-quality dissection practice. Emphasis should be placed upon education and training, spending appropriate time dissecting and ensuring specimens are sufficiently fixed beforehand.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that modulate gene expression by binding to complementary sequences on target messenger RNA transcripts. In situ hybridisation (ISH) methods have been applied to the study of miRNA in tissue samples in order to understand which is the source of the miRNA of interest. In this paper, the authors describe a...

Although the rate for development of FL in individuals having iFL has been reported to be low from prospective studies, the present data indicate that follow-up studies for a longer period is necessary; the rate of Bcl-2-positive follicle proliferation could be a factor to predict development of FL in prospective studies. Such a retrospective study...

AC does not alter LN morphology and is especially suited to retrieve small LN after neoadjuvant CRT of rectal cancer. Neoadjuvant multimodality treatment caused reduced LN sizes while the LN numbers were not affected. When compared with MD, AC proved more reliable in the retrieval of LN from rectal cancer specimens after neoCRT.
The presence of metastatic lymph nodes is a relevant aspect in the treatment of head and neck cancer, bringing about a 50% reduction in survival. Objective: To assess the number of lymph nodes removed in the neck dissection and their relationship with the prognosis. Methods: A retrospective study involving 143 patients with tongue and mouth floor e...
