In this thesis we review the superfield description of four-dimensional supergravity in the compensator formalism. We derive the flat limit of the compensator formalism action and briefly discuss supersymmetry breaking. We investigate the 'Almost No-Scale' proposal of Luty and Okada (JHEP 0304 (2003) 050). Following their suggestion, we consider fi...

We discuss the relation between standard N = 2 supergravity with translational gauging and N = 2 supergravities with scalar-tensor multiplets with massive tensors and abelian electric charges. We point out that a symplectic covariant formulation of N = 2 supergravity can be achieved just in the presence of tensor multiplets. As a consequence one ca...
We present an analysis of the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the deuteron as induced by CP-violating operators of dimension 4, 5 and 6 including #theta#_Q_C_D, the EDMs and color EDMs of quarks, four-quark interactions and the Weinberg operator. We demonstrate that the precision goal of the EDM Collaboration's proposal to search for the deuteron E...
Four dimensional heterotic SO(32) orbifold models are classified systematically with model building applications in mind. We obtain all Z_3, Z_7 and Z_2_N models based on vectorial gauge shifts. The resulting gauge groups are reminiscent of those of type-I model building, as they always take the form SO(2n_0) x U(n_1) x... x U(n_N_-_1) x SO(2n_N). ...
