PurposeThe roles of different cross-sectional imaging in evaluating the recurrence of pancreatic adenocarcinoma are not well established. We evaluated the utility of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) and contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) in the diagnosis of recurrent pancreatic adeno...

The persistent elevation of Ca 19-9 is probably due to the presence of multiple benign diseases such as steatosis, urolithiasis, hepatic and renal cysts, and cholecystitis. An algorithm is needed for healthy patients with elevated levels of Ca 19-9 marker, in order to lower costs, avoid misdiagnoses, and improve management.

The prevalence of pancreatic cancer in patients with new-onset type-2 diabetes is significantly higher than that in the general population and screening is beneficial for detecting PaC in this patient population. CA 19-9 and US is not reliable screening modality for pancreatic cancer screening in this population.
Serum marker evaluation is an easily available prognostic indicator that may help clinicians to discriminate patients with an aggressive disease; there are few and small-sized studies exploring the prognostic role of baseline carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) values and their variations during first-line therapy, and even fewer data are available for ...

PDAC is characterized by an abundant stroma. These initial observations indicate that the stroma can be a source of PDAC tumour markers that are found in different compartments of the cancer, thus reflecting different aspects of tumour biology.

Early radical surgery with or without adjuvant radio-chemo-therapy appears to be the best option for mucinous adenocarcinoma of the bladder, and a good outcome is likely to be related with a confined disease and small tumor size. In addition, Ca 19-9 sampling proves to be useful in tumors that produce markers.

Conclusions: Activation of the immune system in pancreatic cancer is demonstrated by increased serum levels of neopterin, soluble Interleukin 2 receptor (sIL-2R), and Interleukin 6 (IL-6). Determination of these parameters does not provide benefit in the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Background: The aim of the study was to define the diagnostic v...
