A contemporary prospective experiment, recreating ancient Egyptian practice, demonstrates morphological alterations during mummification. However, in order to emulate the process from antiquity, the conclusive step of mummification-impregnation-has to be taken into account. The present commentary gives a perspective on this topic.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) participate in the repair of skin trauma. Our previous study indicated that loureirin A promoted hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) to repair skin epidermis. However, the mechanism of miRNA-mediated regulation of loureirin A-induced HFSC differentiation remained to be explored. In the present study, HFSCs from rat vibrissa were ide...

Mandibular condylar cartilage is a representative secondary cartilage, differing from primary cartilage in various ways. Syndecan is a cell-surface heparan sulfate proteoglycan and speculated to be involved in chondrogenesis and osteogenesis. This study aimed to investigate the expression patterns of the syndecan family in the developing mouse mand...

Penfluridol, a commonly used antipsychotic agent in a clinical setting, exhibits potential anticancer properties against various human malignancies. Here, we investigated the effect of penfluridol on the biological behavior of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. Cell viability and clonogenic potential were detected by the cell counting kit-8 and colony ...

Extant cassowaries (Casuarius) are unique flightless birds found in the tropics of Indo-Australia. They have garnered substantial attention from anatomists with focus centered on the bony makeup and function of their conspicuous cranial casques, located dorsally above the orbits and neurocranium. The osteological patterning of the casque has been f...

The morphology of the tetrapod nasal cavity has adapted to the environment in terms of olfaction and respiration. Reports indicate that the internal structure of the nasal cavity of green sea turtles is more complex than that of turtles in general, but whether or not it is similar among sea turtle species remains unknown. The present study aimed to...

The distribution of cone photoreceptor subtypes (important for color vision and vision quality) varies widely in different carnivore species, but there have been limited studies on bear (ursid) cone distribution. A previous behavioral study suggests that American black bears (Ursus americanus) are dichromatic, indicating that they possess two cone ...

Bone resorption caused by stress shielding and insufficient bone-implant contact continues to be problematic for orthopedic endoprostheses that utilize osseointegration (OI) for skeletal fixation. Morphologic analyses have helped combat this issue by defining anatomic parameters to optimize endoprosthesis loading by maximizing bone-implant contact....

Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury accounts to be a prime cause of neurological deficit following stroke. This study aimed to explore the neuro-protective effects of Xanthoangelol (XAG) on I/R-induced injury in both in vivo and in vitro models. Our data demonstrated that XAG can shrink infarct size and brain edema in middle cerebral artery occlusion...

The ontogeny of the paired appendages has been extensively studied in lungfishes and tetrapods, but remains poorly known in coelacanths. Recent work has shed light on the anatomy and development of the pectoral fin in Latimeria chalumnae. Yet, information on the development of the pelvic fin and girdle is still lacking. Here, we described the devel...
