Siavash is a veterinary surgical specialist and Certified Professional Manager with expertise in comparative medicine research methodology and laboratory animals research ethics. Having more than 10 years’ experience in laboratory animal science, he has an in-depth knowledge regarding regulations and ethics on the care and use of animals in research and teaching, methodology of interventional studies, and various laboratory procedures.
As the former manager of the Preclinical Intensive Care Research Unit (PICRU) at the University of Western Australia, he was responsible for overseeing and co-ordination of the day-to-day activities of the PICRU. This included, scheduling and involvement in animal studies, co-ordination of supply purchase and provision, rostering and direct supervision of junior research staff employed to care for PICRU animals, recommending personnel actions including hiring, training, promoting and disciplining. Beside his successful scientific endeavours, he received commendation for achieving high standards of animal welfare and ethics of research in the unit he managed.
As a freelance consultant in biomedical research, he seeks methods of replacing, reducing and refining animal research activities. He is very keen on teaching and uses novel and innovative methods in his lectures. Apart from his main expertise, he is a technology enthusiast with good knowledge in various topics such as Arduino micro-controllers, Java and C++ programming, and general topics in physics. He uses this knowledge in developing innovative devices to help humans and animals enjoy a better life.
