Big Data to Predict and Prevent Diabetes

Diabetes has far-reaching consequences, including increased risk of other serious diseases and the associated challenges for public health and the economy. Prof. Helen Colhoun aims to advance personalized medicine for this and other chronic diseases. Taking advantage of a unique data set from 330,000 patients’ electronic health records, she is developing the necessary algorithms to improve predictive models of diabetes and complications risk. Her research will also identify individual and collective measures to drive healthy behaviors for disease prevention.
