For this third encounter for his report on doctoral students, Arthur enters a prestigious institution of research: the Pasteur Institute. Here, he meets Ferdinand Roesch, a virologist and, specifically, HIV researcher.

Arthur takes on PhD students once again—those young researchers filling the laboratories of research, moving experiments and ideas forward. Building on his last two meetings, Arthur decides to take the plunge and blend into the daily environment of Ferdinand Roesch, a doctoral candidate at the Pasteur Institute and hero of this third encounter.
Equipped with gloves, goggles and a white lab coat, Arthur awaits Ferdinand, restless and nervous, in the freshly fallen snow of a February evening. Alongside Ferdinand, he discovers a world of humility in which researchers, day after day, thoroughly study HIV, the AIDS virus. Why isn’t this virus detected by the defenses of our immune system? It’s a mystery that, even today, results in the infection of 3 million people around the world per year.
