Annual Reviews launches several initiatives to combat Covid-19

APRIL 2020

Connect with Our Experts During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

During the almost 90-year history of nonprofit Annual Reviews, we have experienced many disrupting events that have changed everyday life, from the Great Depression and the Second World War to climate change and public health emergencies like the SARS, Zika, and Ebola outbreaks. Through it all, we have championed science and supported our stakeholders. We are doing the same now, during the current pandemic crisis. To that end, we have recently launched several initiatives:

  • Remote access: To assist the many students, faculty, and researchers who are working and studying remotely during the pandemic, we have temporarily removed access control to all 51 of our journals in the life, biomedical, physical, and social sciences.
  • Subscribe to Open Pilot: Our solution for sustainable open access publishing includes the 2020 volumes of Annual Review of Public Health (publishing today) and Annual Review of Cancer Biology. These journals have been converted from gated to open access, with all articles published under a CC BY license. The back volumes are also freely available. The status of the three other pilot journals will be announced as they publish during the coming months.
  • Coronavirus-specific research: Scientists are rapidly pursuing in-depth knowledge about SARS-CoV-2 in order to develop therapeutics and vaccines. To support research efforts, we have curated articles covering the epidemiology, evolutionary biology, and pathogenesis of novel coronaviruses.
  • Pandemic Life initiative: This curated content from our social science journals focuses on the pychological and societal effects of living through the pandemic, complementing the public health and infectious disease coverage mentioned above.
  • Knowable Magazine: COVID-19 coverage includes an analysis of the structure of the SARS-CoV-2 virus as well as insight on how social media and internet-based disease surveillance impacts public health.

Annual Reviews remains dedicated to its mission: to synthesize and integrate knowledge for the progress of science and the benefit of society. During this time of stress and uncertainty, we wish you, your loved ones, and colleagues good health and resilience. We also share our gratitude with the medical teams, first responders, researchers, community leaders, employees, and volunteers who are steadfastly working across all the front lines of this battle.
