Politics and technology: #SaveYourInternet
In September the European Parliament voted on – and approved – an amended version of the EU copyright law: Article 13. It requires certain platforms like YouTube and Facebook stop users sharing unlicensed copyrighted material. Users will have access to less content and will be unable to share their content with others, many creators will see their content get blocked and will have less choice on where to share their creations and only platforms with deep pockets will be able to comply with the Article 13. Due to the huge changes this will mean, Youtube has started its #SaveYourInternet campaign.

She is one of the world’s foremost laser physics pioneers and only the third female recipient of the Nobel´s physics prize in its 118-year history. She, along with her supervisor and mentor Gérard Mourou, has figured out a way to generate ultra-short, high-intensity laser pulses without destroying the material amplifying them.Their revolutionary technique, called chirped pulse amplification (CPA), led to the creation of small, incredibly powerful lasers now used in corrective eye surgery, industrial machining and medical imaging.

The Medical discovery: Alzheimer-causing gene erasure in human brain
Researchers at Gladstone Institutes (San Francisco) have discovered the cause of the primary genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, and they may have found a solution to erase its damaging effects. Instead of using mice brains they studied human ones and found that in those possessing even one copy of a gene, called apoE4, are more than twice as likely to develop Alzheimer's disease in their lifetimes. The next step is working with the pharmaceutical industry to test the structure correctors on human patients.
